The Man,
The Mission

Meet Yatish Hulkunte, Conservationist. Naturalist. Wildlife Photographer. Pioneer in Environment Education.

A chemical engineer by learning, Yatish is a dynamic workaholic. He just lives LEAF.Son of late H K Panditaradhya, who retired as Chief Engineer & Administrator of the New Mangalore Port, Mangalore, Karnataka, Yatish began as a wildlife photographer and environment education camp organizer. From 1982, he has been organizing more than 30 wildlife camps annually for the general public, students and rural youth.

He soon realized that these camps in the nature of holiday tours lead nowhere. Yatish started thinking seriously of continued environment education and the idea of LEAF Nature Clubs dawned on him. Ever since, he has been at it bending all his energy, time and resources to this cause.

For a living, he has his own wildlife safaritan outfit, a unit arranging about 20 wildlife camps & eco tours a year for foreigners and Indians at wildlife centers in South India. He is associated with international organizations like Care For The Wild and Zoo Check.

Yatish has gathered round him a committed band of like-minded workers. And of course, there is Jayanthi, wife of Yatish. She joined as a staffer and has ended up as a life partner. They make a made-for-each-other couple with a son Aakash, whom they have already taken to camp since he was a toddler. That way he could go into the record books as the younger comper ever.

Today, Yatish is a leading Ecotourism Consultant in India.
